Massive Landslide at Rasuwagadhi Checkpoint Could Trigger Millions in Insurance Claims

Kathmandu – A devastating landslide at the Rasuwagadhi checkpoint early this morning has swept away dozens of vehicles, causing widespread damage and triggering insurance claims worth millions of rupees.
According to initial reports, a large number of electric and fuel-based vehicles—both new imports and older models—were either en route to Nepal or awaiting customs clearance at the Rasuwagadhi-Kerung border when the disaster struck. Many of these vehicles, parked in queues or stationed temporarily for customs procedures, were washed away by floodwaters caused by the landslide.
In addition to the loss of vehicles, the under-construction customs and immigration infrastructure near the checkpoint may also have sustained damage. If insured, these properties could further add to the volume of claims received by insurance companies in the coming days.
