Rastriya Beema Company Launches Group Accident Insurance in Balan-Bihul Rural Municipality

July 15th, 2025

Kathmandu — Rastriya Beema Company Limited, Lahan Branch, has launched a group accident insurance program for employees and public representatives of Balan-Bihul Rural Municipality in Madhesh Province—marking the first such initiative in the area.

The rural municipality has insured 101 of its staff and representatives with accident coverage worth Rs 1 million per person. The insurance policy was officially issued on Ashar 24 (July 8). To raise awareness and understanding of the program, a one-day interaction session on ‘Group Accident Insurance’ was held at the rural municipality hall on Ashar 29 (July 13).

The session was chaired by Rural Municipality Chairman Khemchandra Yadav and featured a presentation by Suryanath Mahato, Branch Chief of Rastriya Beema Company, Lahan. Over 55 municipal employees and public representatives participated in the program.

Given the limited penetration of insurance services in Madhesh Province, this initiative is expected to contribute significantly to expanding access. Speaking at the event, officials emphasized that while insurance cannot prevent human loss, it provides critical financial relief in the event of accidents, especially for those serving in public roles that involve daily risks.

The program aligns with legal provisions under Section 55 of the Labor Act, 2074 BS, which mandates accident insurance of at least Rs 700,000 for all workers. The Madhesh Province Civil Service Act also requires accident insurance coverage for government employees.
