Over Rs 850 Million Insurance Claims Filed After Rasuwa Disaster; Himalayan Everest Reports Highest Claim

Kathmandu – In the aftermath of the devastating floods and landslides that struck Rasuwa district on Ashar 23, insurance companies have received claims totaling over Rs 850 million. According to data released by the Nepal Insurance Authority, a total of 73 claims have been filed across 11 non-life insurance companies as of Shrawan 15.

Among the insurers, Himalayan Everest Insurance has reported the highest claim amount, filing two major claims worth Rs 550 million. Shikhar Insurance has followed with 15 claims totaling Rs 169.6 million, while Neco Insurance has submitted three claims amounting to Rs 51.2 million. Other companies have also reported significant claims, including Sagarmatha Lumbini Insurance with Rs 26.5 million from two claims, Nepal Insurance with Rs 16.5 million from 14 claims, and United Ajod Insurance with Rs 9.1 million from three claims.

Further details show that IGI Prudential Insurance has filed nine claims worth Rs 7.5 million, Sanima GIC Insurance has also filed six claims of the same amount, and NLG Insurance has submitted six claims totaling Rs 4.7 million. Siddhartha Premier Insurance and Prabhu Insurance have reported claims worth Rs 3.1 million and Rs 2.8 million respectively.

The data also highlights the breakdown of claims by insurance category. Property insurance claims amount to Rs 581 million from six cases, while marine insurance claims stand at Rs 162.5 million from nine cases. Claims under engineering and contractor risk insurance have reached Rs 545 million through four cases. Additionally, motor insurance has accounted for significant losses, with 40 public motor insurance claims amounting to Rs 298 million and 14 private vehicle claims totaling Rs 214 million.

In response to the surge in claims, the Nepal Insurance Authority has directed the concerned insurance companies to promptly gather necessary documentation and settle the claims without delay.
