Ministry of Finance Orders Suspension of Nepal Insurance Authority Chairman Sharad Ojha

Kathmandu – The Ministry of Finance has formally instructed the Nepal Insurance Authority to prevent Sharad Ojha from continuing in his role as chairman. The directive comes amid ongoing legal and administrative disputes over his appointment.
In a letter sent to the Authority today, the ministry asked it to bar Ojha, who has been functioning as chairman since Bhadra 31, following a short-term interim order issued by the Supreme Court. The Authority has also been asked to submit a detailed explanation regarding how Ojha was allowed to assume duties despite the ministry’s earlier dismissal.
The Council of Ministers had dismissed Ojha from his post on Bhadra 2, citing that his appointment as chairman was based on submission of allegedly fake documents. In response, Ojha obtained a short-term interim order from the Supreme Court on Bhadra 23, which allowed him to resume his duties temporarily.
Following the court order, Ojha reportedly began working at the Insurance Authority without formally notifying the ministry or involving the Authority in consultations. The Ministry of Finance has clarified that Ojha can now access the Insurance Authority only after the court order is officially served at the ministry; otherwise, he will be barred from performing his duties.
