MDRT Global Conference Revises Business Targets, Increasing Requirements by 18 Percent

November 22nd, 2025

Kathmandu – The MDRT Global Conference, a major annual event for insurance agents worldwide, has revised its business targets for the upcoming year. The conference has increased this year’s participation target by 18 percent compared to last year.

Insurance agents aiming to participate in the conference scheduled to be held in about a month must achieve a First Premium Income (FPI) of Rs 52,96,700 this year. From next year onward, agents will be required to increase their business by an additional 18 percent to qualify.

The MDRT Global Conference had temporarily lowered targets in recent years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the global economic slowdown. With signs of economic recovery and a decline in policy surrender rates, the organization has now reinstated higher targets. A formal notice has been issued to participating agents regarding the revised requirements.

According to MDRT, agents will need to collect Rs 6,26,100 in first premiums by 2027 to qualify for MDRT membership. For higher tiers, the conference data indicates targets of Rs 18,618,300 for COT and Rs 37,236,600 for TOT.

Participation from Nepali insurers such as LIC Nepal, Nepal Life Insurance, and Union Life was previously higher, especially before the Insurance Authority restricted certain practices. Earlier, some agents met targets by purchasing high initial-premium policies themselves and surrendering them immediately after meeting MDRT requirements. With the Insurance Authority enforcing a mandatory three-year lock-in period on policy surrender, such practices have significantly reduced.
