Insurance companies pay Rs 58 billion in claims, 178,000 claims still outstanding

Kathmandu — In the first 10 months of fiscal year 2025/26, life and non-life insurance companies have paid out nearly Rs 58 billion in claim settlements. According to data published by the Nepal Insurance Authority for the period up to April of the current fiscal year, insurers have paid a total of Rs 57.975 billion in insurance claims.

Insurance claim payments have decreased by 14.15% compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year. During the same period last year, insurance companies had paid Rs 67.5327 billion in claims up to the end of May.

In the first 10 months of fiscal year 2025/26, life insurance companies paid Rs 34.6132 billion against 159,302 claims. In the same period of the previous year, life insurers had paid Rs 48.9542 billion against 218,951 claims.

During the review period, non-life insurers paid Rs 23.3617 billion against 125,782 claims. In the same period last year, they had paid Rs 18.5785 billion against 113,937 claims.

Still Rs 51 billion in claims to be paid

By the first 10 months of the current fiscal year, insurance companies still have Rs 51.1439 billion in claims pending settlement. A total of 178,060 claims are yet to be paid.

During this period, life insurance companies still have 61,649 claims pending, worth Rs 5.5241 billion. In the same period of the previous fiscal year, pending life insurance claims stood at 53,481 cases worth Rs 4.4515 billion.

Similarly, by the end of May of the current fiscal year, non-life insurance companies still have 116,441 pending claims worth Rs 45.6198 billion.
