109 Aftershocks in 12 Hours of Jajarkot Earthquake
Kathmandu : After the powerful 6.4 Richter scale earthquake that hit Jajarkot at midnight yesterday, a total of 109 big and small aftershocks have occurred till 11:30 today.
Rescuers from Jajarkot reported that earthquakes occur every 5.10 minutes. The National Earthquake Measurement and Discovery Center stated that six aftershocks occurred after the earthquake.
Shortly after the powerful earthquake, a 4.5 Richter scale earthquake occurred at 12:08 PM and a 4.2 Richter scale earthquake occurred at 12:29 PM. Likewise, at 12:35 pm, a 4.3 Richter scale earthquake occurred and caused panic many times. Likewise, an earthquake of magnitude 4.6 occurred today at 4:16 am.
Since the Earthquake Measurement Center keeps records of calculations above 4 Richter scale only, records of earthquakes above 4 Richter scale are not kept. Bipin Shahi, who was involved in the rescue operation in Khalanga, said that the 109 aftershocks that occurred till this morning were minor.
