7.6 Magnitude Earthquake hits Japan were at least 55 people died and rescue operation is going on
On Monday, 1st of January, 2024 A.D huge earthquake of 7.6 magnitude hits northwest of Tokyo, Japan. The quake affected the Noto Peninsula in the central prefecture of Ishikawa on Monday afternoon.
Tsunami alerts were given after this huge earthquake as far away as Russia according to the experts. Collapsing of buildings and sparkling fires can be seen in the Northwest of Tokyo.
According to the Japanese public broadcaster NHK, citing officials from the Ishikawa prefecture at least 55 people have been found dead and still counting.
After 24 hours of the quake struck many aftershocks has been in northern part of Noto Peninsula along with treats of Tsunami. According to the Ministry of Japan, Japan’s Self Defense Force had joined police and fire emergency teams in rescuing the people from devastated areas. Report says that many people are still being trapped under damaged building.
At least 45,700 households in Ishikawa have to face the problem of lack of power according to the power company Hokuriku Electric Power. Even the vehicles were stranded in the roads due to the cracks caused by the strong earthquake.
Tsunami waves of at most 1 meter high was observed in the western city of Suzu crashing over a protective sea wall.
Geological Survey of the international experts says that at least 35 smaller aftershocks were faced near the epicenter of the quake expected to last for a month.
Rescue operation is still going on in the affected area of Western Japan.
