PM Modi of India Launches LIC “Bima Sakhi Yojana” to Empower Women with New Livelihood Opportunities
New Delhi – Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India has recently launched the “LIC Bima Sakhi Yojana” in Panipat, Haryana, an initiative aimed at empowering women and expanding insurance penetration across rural India. The scheme, introduced by the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC), provides women between the ages of 18 and 70 with an opportunity to work as agents and earn a stable income.
Designed for women with a minimum educational qualification of Class X, the program offers a fixed stipend for the first three years along with commissions on policy sales. Participants will undergo specialized training to enhance financial literacy and awareness about insurance services. Upon completing the program, the women, referred to as Bima Sakhis, can work as LIC agents, with opportunities to advance into development officer roles.
LIC Bima Sakhi Yojana also aims to address India’s low insurance penetration. By creating a cadre of trained women agents, LIC seeks to extend financial services and awareness to underserved communities. The scheme not only promotes financial literacy but also provides women with the tools to achieve economic self-reliance, reflecting its potential for long-term success.
