Chandra Bahadur Thapa Chhetri Appointed Chairman of Health Insurance Board

Kathmandu – Chandra Bahadur Thapa Chhetri has been appointed as the chairman of the Health Insurance Board. Minister for Health and Population Mohan Bahadur Poudel administered the oath of office and secrecy to Thapa on Tuesday.
Before Thapa’s appointment, development economist Dr. Raghuraj Kafle was appointed as the director of the board. Minister Poudel emphasized that improving health insurance, strengthening the health insurance fund, and ensuring its sustainability remain key priorities for the ministry.
The minister recently outlined options for increasing resources for the health insurance fund and called for support from all sectors to achieve this goal. He also reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to introducing necessary policy arrangements to enhance the board’s efficiency.
Thapa, a graduate, who has previously served as a member of the Health Insurance Board has pledged to make the insurance claim payment process fast and transparent and to manage the insurance fund transparently and effectively.
Additionally, he has also expressed his intention to take initiatives for the approval of the permanent organizational structure of the Health Insurance Board, to launch a public awareness campaign about the importance of health insurance, and to collaborate with the government, private sector, and international organizations to make the insurance program effective.
