CIAA Investigates Allegations of False Credentials Submitted by NIA Chairman Sharad Ojha

May 27th, 2025

Kathmandu — The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has launched a detailed inquiry into the appointment of Sharad Ojha as Chairman of the Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA) following allegations that he submitted false and misleading documents to secure the position.

According to the CIAA, the investigation was prompted by evidence, including experience certificates and appointment letters submitted by Ojha, which are now under scrutiny. A key focus of the inquiry is Ojha’s claim of having worked at the high management level at Chanakya Media Pvt. Ltd.—a claim that reportedly played a role in his appointment.

However, sources familiar with the matter confirm that Ojha had not served in any managerial capacity at Chanakya Media. Instead, he had worked as a correspondent under the provisions of the Working Journalists Act, 2051 BS. Despite this, Ojha is said to have presented the experience as high-level management during his application to the Council of Ministers.

Kantipur Daily has reported that the original appointment file, previously kept sealed at the National Insurance Authority has been moved to the Authority’s office in Tangal for further examination. The Supreme Court has also ordered the retrieval of the original file related to his appointment.

According to CIAA sources, a case will be formally registered once all related inquiries are completed. Preliminary findings indicate that Ojha did not hold the roles he claimed in several organizations and, in cases where he did work, it was not at the high management level as stated.

The Nepal Insurance Authority has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
