Kitchen, Food and Beverage Group Inflation High on Higher Prices

Kathmandu : Since the beginning of this financial year, the common consumer has to bear the brunt of the price hike. In the first two months of this financial year, July and August, the annual point consumer inflation was 8.19 percent. The financial status of the country released by the National Bank shows that Nepali consumers are living in such a state of poverty.

The government aims to maintain inflation at 6.5 percent through budget and monetary policy. However, the situation is different. At the beginning of the financial year, we are facing a sharp growth.

Last year, inflation was 8.64 percent in July and August. According to Central Bank, the inflation of food and beverages group is high this year as well. This has made the Nepali kitchen more expensive.

Inflation of this group is 9.74 percent and inflation of non-food and service group is 6.99 percent. Even among food and beverages, the price of marmalade has increased the most by 45.46 percent. The price of cumin has skyrocketed.

The prices of sugar and sugar products have increased by 17.86 percent, vegetables by 14.51 percent, food and food products by 13.38 percent, dairy products and eggs by 12.60 percent, and restaurants and hotels by 10.97 percent. It has been shown in the data that the price of ghee and oil sub-group has decreased by 13.08 percent.

The price increase was highest in the Himalayan region (11.32 percent), Kathmandu Valley (9.83 percent), 8.09 percent in the hilly region and 7.03 percent in the Terai region.
