Insurance Claims from Floods and Landslides in Nepal Reach Rs 12.88 Billion

Kathmandu – Non-life insurance companies in Nepal have received claims amounting to Rs 12.88 billion due to the devastation caused by recent floods and landslides. According to the Nepal Insurance Authority, 3,673 claims have been filed as of December 26, encompassing 14 non-life insurance providers and four microinsurance companies.

So far, these companies have settled 1,720 claims worth Rs 1.52 billion. Among them, Shikhar Insurance has paid the highest amount, disbursing Rs 313.8 million against claims worth Rs 1.14 billion.

Siddhartha Premier Insurance reported the highest claim value, receiving claims worth Rs 2.63 billion from 511 cases, of which Rs 303.5 million has been paid. Similarly, The Oriental Insurance Company has received claims worth Rs 1.37 billion for 183 cases, settling Rs 50.3 million during this period.

 

Other notable figures include Sagarmatha Lumbini Insurance, which received claims worth Rs 1.37 billion, settling Rs 204.3 million, and Himalayan Everest, which handled Rs 1 billion worth of claims, paying Rs 136.2 million.

Neco Insurance received Rs 1.08 billion worth of claims and paid Rs 103.4 million, while United Ajod Insurance reported Rs 748 million in claims. Meanwhile, National Insurance and IGI Prudential Insurance received Rs 483.6 million and Rs 413.4 million in claims, respectively.

The government-owned Rastriya Beema Company, despite receiving claims worth Rs 200 million, has yet to make any payments, raising concerns over its operational transparency.

To facilitate flood and landslide victims, the Insurance Authority has urged affected policyholders to directly contact their insurance providers via phone, email, or by visiting branch offices.
