In a recent conversation with BeemaPost, Kshetri shared insights about her journey, challenges, and the future of the insurance sector in Nepal.

How long have you been in the insurance sector?

Durga Devi Kshetri KC: I have been in the insurance sector for about nine months. Currently, I am working as an Agency Manager at Citizen Life Insurance’s Maharajgunj branch.

What motivated you to join the insurance sector, and how do you see its future?

Durga Devi Kshetri KC: I was introduced to the insurance sector through the advice of Geeta Rayamajhi ma’am. She explained the benefits of the insurance industry several times. Initially, I wasn’t very interested, but as I learned more about the sector and its advantages, I decided to join under her guidance. I see a bright future in this profession as it offers financial stability, respect, and growth opportunities.

Are you involved in any other business besides insurance?

Durga Devi Kshetri KC: Yes, I have been running a boutique business called Snap Boutique for the past 12 to 13 years. My sisters currently manage the boutique while I focus on my career in insurance.

How would you define the profession of an insurance agent?

Durga Devi Kshetri KC: Being an insurance agent is both a noble and a social profession. It provides financial protection from life’s uncertainties and helps people manage risks. Insurance is recognized globally as an excellent career for financial growth and social contribution.

How have people responded when you explain the benefits of insurance?

Durga Devi Kshetri KC: While many people have responded positively, some are still skeptical due to the poor state of cooperatives and financial institutions. However, once they understand the benefits of insurance, most become receptive. I have also used social media platforms like Facebook and TikTok to educate people about insurance.

How easy or difficult is it to explain insurance to the public?

Durga Devi Kshetri KC: It is not as easy as we expect due to the current economic situation and doubts surrounding financial institutions. Many people fear that insurance companies might collapse like cooperatives and finance companies. Overcoming these doubts requires consistent effort and effective communication.”

Which Citizen Life insurance policies are most popular among clients?

Durga Devi Kshetri KC: The ‘Citizen Shubharambha Yojana’ and the ‘Citizen Advance Payment Plan’ are the most popular policies among clients due to their comprehensive coverage and benefits.

Why do you think people should get insurance?

Durga Devi Kshetri: Life is uncertain, and financial challenges can arise unexpectedly due to accidents or illnesses. Insurance provides a safety net, ensuring that individuals and their families don’t face financial hardships. It prevents people from falling into poverty and offers support during emergencies.

How satisfied are you with your role at Citizen Life Insurance?

Durga Devi Kshetri KC: Joining Citizen Life has given me recognition and confidence. Previously, even after running a boutique for over a decade, few people knew me professionally. Now, people recognize me as an insurance agent. Citizen Life has given me the confidence to speak publicly and build my professional identity.

You achieved the MDRT target within one year. What factors contributed to this success?

Durga Devi Kshetri KC: After two months of joining Citizen Life, I entered the Silver Club. Despite facing initial challenges, I remained focused. A training session in Pokhara motivated me to work harder. Within one month, I contacted friends and family both in Nepal and abroad, proposing insurance plans. My husband’s support was also instrumental in achieving the MDRT target.

What steps should be taken to make the insurance profession more respected and organized?

Durga Devi Kshetri KC: Insurance companies should focus on enhancing the skills of agents through training and policy education. Well-informed agents can better explain the benefits of insurance and build trust with clients.”

Any final thoughts?
Durga Devi Kshetri KC: I am grateful to my clients, colleagues, and family for their trust and support. I hope to continue contributing to the insurance sector and empowering people through financial security.
