Government Forms Committee to Recommend Chairperson for Insurance Authority

April 25th, 2026

Kathmandu — The government has formed a recommendation committee to appoint a new chairperson of the Nepal Insurance Authority.

As per a Cabinet decision on April 21, the committee is headed by Dr. Gunakar Bhatta, with Dr. Ghanshyam Upadhyay serving as a member and insurance expert Dr. Fattabahadur KC as an expert member.

Currently, a Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Finance is overseeing the Authority, allocating about an hour after completing ministry duties. The lack of full-time leadership has left several regulatory functions of the Authority pending.

The committee, led by Dr. Bhatta, will recommend three candidates, from which the government will appoint one as chairperson for a four-year term.
