Pakistan Marks 80th Independence Day with Flag Hoisting Ceremony in Kathmandu

Kathmandu — The Embassy of Pakistan celebrated the country’s 80th Independence Day with a flag hoisting ceremony at the Chancery, where Ambassador H.E. Mr. Mohammad Aamir Khan unfurled the national flag before members of the Pakistani community, Nepali friends and Embassy officials with their families.

In his message, President Asif Ali Zardari paid tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the sacrifices of the Pakistan Movement, calling independence both an achievement and a responsibility. He highlighted Pakistan’s use of its diplomatic channels and geographic position to encourage dialogue and de-escalation in the region.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said Pakistan’s development continues despite challenges, crediting the armed forces for defending the nation and calling Pakistan a strong, respected advocate for peace. He cited the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye as proof of Pakistan’s growing regional role, and reaffirmed that lasting peace in South Asia requires resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute under UN resolutions and international law.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar said Pakistan has progressed steadily since independence guided by unity, faith and discipline, reaffirming commitment to sovereignty, security and regional peace while honoring the armed forces and security personnel.

Ambassador Mohammad Aamir Khan paid tribute to the sacrifices of 1947 and said Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts had helped ease tensions in West Asia. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to peace and progress, and expressed readiness to deepen diplomatic and economic ties with Nepal based on longstanding historic and civilizational links.
