Life Insurance Claims Hit NPR 86 Billion, Up 9.64 Percent
Kathmandu — Life insurance companies paid out more than NPR 86 billion in claims during the last fiscal year, according to their fourth-quarter financial statements.
The 14 life insurers paid a combined NPR 86.31 billion in claims in fiscal year 2025/26, up 9.64 percent from NPR 78.72 billion in the previous fiscal year. Nine companies recorded an increase in claim payments, while payments declined at five.
Nepal Life Insurance topped the list, paying NPR 21.58 billion during the year, compared with NPR 19.20 billion a year earlier. National Life Insurance ranked second with claim payments of NPR 13.97 billion, up 26.15 percent from NPR 11.07 billion. Life Insurance Corporation Nepal paid NPR 13.06 billion, a 3.76 percent rise from NPR 12.59 billion.

Rastriya Jeevan Beema Company paid NPR 7.95 billion, up 21.17 percent from NPR 6.56 billion, followed by Himalayan Life Insurance with NPR 7.92 billion, Asian Life Insurance with NPR 5.84 billion, and SuryaJyoti Life Insurance with NPR 3.65 billion.
MetLife Insurance paid NPR 3.33 billion, and Citizen Life Insurance paid NPR 1.94 billion. Sanima Reliance Life Insurance paid NPR 1.57 billion, while Sun Nepal Life Insurance paid NPR 1.49 billion, down 5.39 percent from NPR 1.57 billion a year earlier.
Reliable Nepal Life Insurance paid NPR 1.48 billion, IME Life Insurance paid NPR 1.47 billion, and Prabhu Mahalaxmi Life Insurance paid NPR 1.05 billion during the review period.
The figures show that claim payments have continued to rise alongside the expansion of the life insurance business, with the largest insurers accounting for a substantial share of total payouts.
