July 27th, 2025

Minneapolis – Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America has confirmed a significant data breach affecting the majority of its 1.4 million customers. The Minneapolis-based insurer, a subsidiary of Germany’s Allianz SE, reported that a malicious actor accessed personally identifiable information through a third-party cloud platform on July 16.

In an official statement, Allianz Life revealed that the attacker used a social engineering technique to infiltrate the system, compromising data belonging to customers, financial professionals, and select employees. The company emphasized that its internal systems were not breached, as the attack was limited to an external vendor’s platform.

“The threat actor was able to obtain personally identifiable data related to the majority of Allianz Life’s customers, financial professionals, and select Allianz Life employees, using a social engineering technique,” Allianz Life said in a statement. “We took immediate action to contain and mitigate the issue and notified the FBI.”A filing with the latter indicated that the breach was discovered on July 17, just a day after the intrusion.

As part of its response, the company has begun notifying affected individuals and will provide 24 months of free identity theft protection and credit monitoring services. Allianz Life confirmed that the incident is limited to its U.S. operations and does not involve other Allianz entities globally.

The firm, which employs nearly 2,000 people across the U.S.—most of them in Minnesota was formerly known as North American Life and Casualty before its acquisition by Allianz SE in 1979. Allianz SE, headquartered in Munich, serves over 125 million customers worldwide through its various subsidiaries. –  News Agency
