Gen Z Embraces AI but Seeks Stability and Work-Life Balance, KPMG Survey Finds

August 21st, 2025

New York (KMPG) – A new survey by KPMG LLP reveals that while Generation Z (Gen Z) interns anticipate rapid technological change, they remain optimistic about adapting to artificial intelligence (AI) in the workplace.

According to the KPMG Intern Pulse Survey, half of Gen Z interns expect that at least 20% of their jobs will be automated by AI when they begin full-time roles. Despite this, an overwhelming 92% expressed confidence in their ability to adapt to AI-driven advancements in their respective fields.

Derek Thomas, National Partner-in-Charge of University Talent Acquisition at KPMG U.S., said the findings challenge the common narrative that younger workers fear being replaced by AI.

“Instead, this talent is embracing AI as a tool and seeking stability, meaningful relationships, and sustained career development from their employers,” Thomas explained. “Organizations that recognize and support these values will be best positioned to attract and retain top talent from this next generation.”

The survey, conducted in July 2025, gathered responses from 1,117 interns across KPMG’s Tax, Audit, Advisory, and Business Process Group (BPG) functions. It sheds light on Gen Z’s expectations for the workplace, highlighting both their openness to innovation and their demand for long-term growth opportunities.
