Nepal Re CEO Files Police Complaint Citing Safety Concerns

September 25th, 2025

Kathmandu – Surendra Thapa, Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Reinsurance Company, has filed a complaint with the Metropolitan Police Complex, Kathmandu, citing concerns for his personal safety. Thapa, who had not been seen at his office for the past four days, remained inside the police office throughout the day on Thursday.

According to the police, Thapa lodged a written application stating that he felt unsafe due to pressure from within his own company. Following his request, the police invited the company’s employees and the chairman of the board for a discussion.

During the meeting, however, Thapa was reportedly unable to specify which employees had threatened him or the nature of the alleged threats. At one point, he expressed frustration, stating he was “ashamed to continue working” and indicated his willingness to resign from the board.

Thapa has not attended the company office for the past three working days, and his absence was noted in media reports earlier this week. Following the reports, calls for his resignation intensified.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Pawan Bhattarai of the District Police Office, Kathmandu, confirmed that Thapa had submitted the complaint and that discussions were held with both parties. According to him, an understanding was reached during the meeting.
