Heavy Rain Forecast Triggers Disaster Warning Across Nepal

Kathmandu — Meteorologists have warned of a heightened risk of floods and landslides as heavy rainfall is expected to continue across several parts of the country until Sunday morning. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert and move to safer locations if necessary.
According to the DHM, the Kathmandu Valley and the western districts of the Madhesh Province are likely to experience intense rainfall through early Sunday. The weather system is then expected to shift eastward from Kavre to other parts of eastern Nepal by late Sunday morning.
Kamal Ram Joshi, Director General of the Department, said the latest forecasts, based on multiple meteorological models, indicate a realistic likelihood of very heavy rain in and around the Kathmandu Valley. “People living near rivers, landslide-prone slopes, or low-lying areas should take precautions,” Joshi cautioned.
Authorities have advised local governments and disaster management teams to stay on high alert and prepare for possible emergencies. With the monsoon season still active, experts have also urged travelers and residents to monitor official weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel in high-risk zones.
