Life Insurance Companies’ Investments Reach Nearly NPR 912 Billion
Kathmandu — By the end of fiscal year 2025/26 (2082/83), Nepal’s life insurance companies had further expanded their investment portfolios, strengthening their presence in the financial market. The total investment of the 14 life insurance companies currently operating in Nepal increased by 15.26 percent year-on-year to NPR 911.98 billion. In the same period of the previous fiscal year 2024/25 (2081/82) , total investment stood at NPR 791.27 billion.
Long-term investments, which form the mainstay of insurance companies’ investment portfolios, also recorded encouraging growth this year. As of mid-July 2026, the companies had invested a total of NPR 665.54 billion in long-term instruments, an increase of 6.65 percent compared with the previous year.
Nepal Life Insurance maintained its leading position in terms of long-term investment, investing NPR 211.96 billion. LIC Nepal, National Life Insurance and Himalayan Life ranked second, third and fourth, respectively, with investments of NPR 79.84 billion, NPR 77.87 billion and NPR 49.44 billion.
Similarly, SuryaJyoti Life invested NPR 48.10 billion, Asian Life NPR 37.03 billion, Rastriya Jeevan Beema Company NPR 34.88 billion, Citizen Life NPR 24.36 billion, Reliable Nepal Life NPR 23.88 billion, MetLife NPR 21.36 billion, IME Life NPR 15.42 billion, Sanima Reliance Life NPR 14.82 billion, Sun Nepal Life NPR 13.50 billion and Prabhu Mahalaxmi Life NPR 13.09 billion.
In percentage terms, Rastriya Jeevan Beema Company and SuryaJyoti Life recorded the highest growth in long-term investments, increasing by 57.27 percent and 48.16 percent, respectively. However, LIC Nepal, MetLife and Himalayan Life saw their long-term investments decline by 14.45 percent, 14.18 percent and 4.34 percent, respectively, compared with the previous year.
Life insurance companies appeared considerably more aggressive in short-term investments, which generate returns over shorter periods. During the review period, short-term investments increased by 47.37 percent to NPR 246.44 billion. LIC Nepal ranked first in this category with investments of NPR 51.66 billion, followed by Nepal Life and Himalayan Life in second and third place.
Sun Nepal Life recorded the highest growth in short-term investments, increasing its portfolio by 161.79 percent. National Life, LIC Nepal and IME Life also recorded growth of more than 100 percent in this category. However, Prabhu Mahalaxmi Life and SuryaJyoti Life reduced their short-term investments by 55 percent and 48.91 percent, respectively.
