Flood and Landslide Claims Reach Rs 12.26 Billion in Nepal
Kathmandu – Non-life insurance companies in Nepal have reported claims totaling Rs 12.26 billion due to the recent floods and landslides, according to the Nepal Insurance Authority. A total of 3,529 claims have been filed across 14 non-life insurance companies and four microinsurance providers as of November 27.
According to Nepal Insurance Authority, 1,215 claims have been settled, with Rs 789.3 million disbursed. Shikhar Insurance has emerged as the top payer, settling claims worth Rs 276.6 million. Siddhartha Premier Insurance has received the highest claim amount, totaling Rs 2.59 billion from 505 claims, of which Rs 136.7 million has been paid. Similarly, The Oriental Insurance Company has settled Rs 210.1 million out of Rs 1.53 billion claimed for 177 cases.
Sagarmatha Lumbini Insurance has received claims worth Rs 1.36 billion for 413 cases, disbursing Rs 72.3 million. Shikhar Insurance reported claims worth Rs 1.10 billion for 457 cases, paying out Rs 270 million. Meanwhile, Himalayan Everest Insurance received Rs 1.10 billion in claims for 246 cases, with Rs 85.3 million settled so far.
Neco Insurance has paid Rs 690 million against Rs 760 million claimed for 219 cases. United Ajod Insurance reported claims of Rs 720 million for 328 cases, while National Insurance Company received claims worth Rs 500 million. IGI Prudential Insurance, NLG Insurance, and Nepal Insurance have received claims of Rs 470 million, Rs 490 million, and Rs 390 million respectively. Prabhu Insurance and the government-owned Rastriya Beema Company both reported claims of Rs 200 million each.
The Nepal Insurance Authority has directed affected policyholders to contact their insurers directly via phone, email, or by visiting branch offices for claim assistance. Despite the significant claims, the National Insurance Company has faced criticism for failing to settle any claims to date, despite its government affiliation.
