NIA Promotes Insurance Awareness Among Rural Communities
Kathmandu – The Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA) is actively working to enhance insurance accessibility and awareness in rural areas. Targeting local governments, the NIA aims to educate citizens on the benefits and importance of insurance, especially in agriculture and livestock sectors.
Through its Gandaki Province Office, the NIA has conducted orientation programs for representatives from 52 of the 85 local levels in the province. These sessions focus on life and non-life insurance, fraud prevention, and effective claim settlement processes. Public representatives, including municipal chiefs, deputies, and ward leaders, have been briefed on insurance challenges, solutions, and the financial security it offers to communities.
The NIA has also engaged local journalists to ensure accurate information dissemination and to combat misinformation regarding insurance policies. The awareness drive underscores the role of insurance in mitigating financial losses and empowering farmers by insuring crops and livestock.
The Authority is collaborating with stakeholders to expand the reach of insurance services, address existing challenges, and promote microinsurance and agricultural insurance schemes. Nepal currently has fourteen life insurance, fourteen non-life insurance, seven microinsurance, and two reinsurance companies, reflecting the growing focus on expanding the nation’s insurance landscape.
