Nepal Reinsurance Company Invests Rs 22.28 Billion in Third Quarter, Focuses on Bank Term Deposits

Kathmandu — Nepal Reinsurance Company has made a total investment of Rs 22.28 billion in the third quarter of the current fiscal year, with the majority allocated to term deposits in banks and financial institutions, according to data from the Nepal Insurance Authority.

Out of the total investment, Rs 18.87 billion has been placed in fixed deposits with banks and financial institutions, while the remaining Rs 3.41 billion has been directed toward various other sectors.

The investments have been made in line with the guidelines issued by the Nepal Insurance Authority, which allows insurance companies to invest up to 10% of their total investment in term deposits of commercial and development banks, and up to 5% in category C financial institutions, with an overall cap of 20% in such institutions.

Among the allocations, commercial banks received the highest investment of Rs 16.1 billion. Class B development banks followed with Rs 2.31 billion. Additionally, the company invested Rs 1.41 billion in preference shares, bonds, and debentures.

Further breakdown includes Rs 596.5 million in promoter shares, Rs 507.2 million in shares of other unlisted public companies, and Rs 450 million in savings deposits with C-class banks. The company also invested Rs 300 million in government savings certificates and debentures, Rs 260 million in fixed deposits of infrastructure development banks, Rs 150 million in other investment areas, Rs 94.7 million in ordinary shares of listed public companies, and Rs 90.9 million in the Citizens Investment Fund.
