Supreme Court Postpones Hearing on Legitimacy of Insurance Authority Chairman’s Appointment

April 13th, 2025

Kathmandu – The Supreme Court has rescheduled the hearing of a writ petition challenging the appointment of the Chairman of the Insurance Authority of Nepal, citing procedural delays. The next hearing has been set for Baisakh 8 (April 21), 2082.

The case, which questions the qualifications of the current Chairman and alleges that the appointment was made by misleading the Government of Nepal, was initially slated to be heard today by a division bench of Justices Binod Sharma and Mahesh Sharma Poudel. However, the hearing was postponed after the legal representatives and judges involved could not proceed with arguments.

According to the court, all concerned parties—including the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Finance, and the Insurance Authority—are required to submit their written responses by the new hearing date. These responses will be critical in determining whether the appointment violated existing legal provisions concerning eligibility for the post.

The Supreme Court is expected to deliberate further once all responses are submitted and arguments are heard during the next session.
