Bhotekoshi-Trishuli Floods: Insurance Claims Top NPR 25.87 Billion

Kathmandu — Preliminary insurance claims filed with insurance companies following the floods in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers on Bhadra 10, 2083, have reached NPR 25.87 billion.

According to data compiled by the Nepal Insurance Authority as of Bhadra 15, 2083, a total of 583 insurance policies have been affected by the floods, with preliminary claims worth NPR 25.87 billion filed under them.

The largest share of claims has gone to The Oriental Insurance Company Limited, which has received preliminary claims worth NPR 13.04 billion across eight policies.

United Ajod Insurance follows with NPR 4.97 billion in claims from 38 policies, Sanima GIC Insurance with NPR 2.10 billion from 102 policies, and Siddhartha Premier Insurance with NPR 1.89 billion from 67 policies.

Shikhar Insurance has received preliminary claims worth NPR 1.88 billion from 127 policies, Himalayan Everest Insurance NPR 647.82 million from 45 policies, and Neco Insurance NPR 517.04 million from 66 policies.

Sagarmatha Lumbini Insurance has recorded preliminary claims of NPR 242.33 million from 32 policies, Nepal Insurance NPR 238.64 million from 32 policies, and IGI Prudential Insurance NPR 187.30 million from 26 policies.

Further down the list, NLG Insurance has received NPR 113.10 million from 21 policies, Prabhu Insurance NPR 31.20 million from 14 policies, and Rastriya Beema Company NPR 7.60 million from two policies. National Insurance has recorded claims of NPR 5.33 million from two policies, while Nepal Micro Insurance has received a single preliminary claim of NPR 500,000.

Engineering and Contractor Risk Insurance Accounts for More Than NPR 20 Billion

By policy type, the largest volume of claims falls under engineering and contractor risk insurance, where 52 policies have generated preliminary claims worth NPR 20.51 billion.

Property insurance claims stand at NPR 2.35 billion across 113 policies, while motor insurance claims total NPR 1.55 billion from 313 policies. Transport insurance has generated preliminary claims worth NPR 897.74 million from 47 policies.

Additionally, 54 policies under the “other insurance” category account for NPR 529.29 million in claims, while four health insurance policies have generated preliminary claims worth NPR 4.16 million.
