Kaligandaki Rural Municipality Provides Free Health Insurance to All Residents

Kathmandu — Kaligandaki Rural Municipality in Syangja has taken a major step toward ensuring universal health coverage by providing free health insurance to all its residents. In the current fiscal year 2081/082, the municipality has paid a total of Rs 17.2 million to the Health Insurance Board office in Syangja, covering insurance premiums for all 4,543 households within the municipality.

To make healthcare more accessible and affordable, the rural municipality has included every household from its seven wards under the national health insurance scheme. The number of households covered includes 772 in Ward No. 1, 726 in Ward No. 2, 583 in Ward No. 3, 668 in Ward No. 4, 680 in Ward No. 5, 588 in Ward No. 6, and 526 in Ward No. 7.

The health insurance coverage campaign was carried out in four separate phases. In the first phase, insurance premiums were paid for 1,617 households, followed by coverage for 2,183 households in the second phase. The third and fourth phases insured 399 and 344 households, respectively, completing the full coverage target.

Municipal authorities stated that this initiative is a reflection of their commitment to ensuring the health and well-being of every citizen.
