Life Insurers’ Business Grows 11%, with IME, Reliable and Citizens Posting Strong Gains
Kathmandu — Life insurance companies operating in Nepal earned total premiums of NPR 140.45 billion during the third quarter of fiscal year 2025/26. According to data released by the Nepal Insurance Authority, all 14 life insurers in operation contributed to this total.
The sector expanded by 11.31% compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year, when insurers had collected NPR 126.18 billion in premiums.
By total premium income, Nepal Life Insurance and National Life Insurance remain the market leaders. However, in terms of growth rate, IME Life Insurance and Reliable Nepal Life posted the strongest performance.
Nepal Life Insurance recorded the highest premium income, growing its business by 11.64% year-on-year to reach NPR 36.86 billion.
National Life Insurance ranked second, with premiums rising 9.20% to NPR 17.07 billion, followed by LIC Nepal, which grew 8.08% to NPR 15.17 billion.
Among other insurers, Himalayan Life Insurance saw its business increase by 5.31% to NPR 13.26 billion. Rastriya Jeevan Beema grew by 11.70% to NPR 9.11 billion, while SuryaJyoti Life rose 11.67% to NPR 8.55 billion. Asian Life expanded by 12.11% to NPR 7.24 billion, and Citizens Life posted a notable 19.26% growth to NPR 6.06 billion. Sanima Reliance Life increased by 11.92% to NPR 5.42 billion, while IME Life recorded the highest growth rate of 31.23%, reaching NPR 4.95 billion.
During the review period, MetLife’s premiums rose 10% to NPR 4.90 billion. Reliable Nepal Life grew by 20% to NPR 4.44 billion, Prabhu Mahalaxmi Life increased by 14% to NPR 4.19 billion, and Sun Nepal Life posted a modest 2.80% rise to NPR 3.17 billion.
