Insurance Education Introduced in School Curriculum

Kathmandu — Insurance education has officially been incorporated into Nepal’s school curriculum following an initiative by the Nepal Insurance Authority.

The move comes after a series of consultations involving the Authority, the Curriculum Development Centre, the National Examination Board, the Education Review Office, and experts in social studies. Based on those discussions, insurance has been included as a compulsory topic within the social studies curriculum.

According to Executive Director Sushil Dev Subedi, the Authority identified key insurance-related content and submitted recommendations to the Curriculum Development Centre for inclusion in the proposed curriculum and teachers’ guide.

During the consultations, participants explored how insurance concepts could be integrated into the social studies syllabus from Grades 4 to 12. Based on the agreed framework, insurance education will initially be taught in Grades 5 through 10, in coordination with the Curriculum Development Centre in Sanothimi.

Although the curriculum has so far been finalized only up to Grade 10, the Curriculum Development Centre said preparations are underway to extend insurance education to Grades 11 and 12 in the future.
