Life Insurers Spend Over NPR 16 Billion on Agent Commissions, Nepal Life Leads

Kathmandu — Life insurance companies increased their spending on insurance agent commissions by around 10 percent in fiscal year 2025/26 (2082/83), with total commission expenses crossing NPR 16 billion.

According to the financial data published by the companies, life insurers spent NPR 16.30 billion on agent commissions during the last fiscal year, up from NPR 14.80 billion in fiscal year 2024/25 (2081/82).

Nepal Life Insurance spent the most on agent commissions, distributing NPR 4.12 billion during the year. Its commission expenses increased by 12 percent compared with the previous fiscal year.

In terms of commission expense growth, IME Life Insurance recorded the highest increase. The company increased its spending by 27 percent year-on-year, distributing around NPR 670 million in commissions to its agents.

National Life Insurance and Life Insurance Corporation Nepal (LIC Nepal), which rank among the leading insurers in terms of business, stood second and third respectively in agent commission expenses.

Rastriya Jeevan Beema Company recorded the lowest agent commission expense among the life insurers. However, its commission spending still increased by 10.49 percent compared with the previous fiscal year.
