Nepal Non-Life Insurers Contribute NPR 34.7 Million to Support Flood Victims
Kathmandu — The Nepal Non-Life Insurance Professionals’ Association and its member non-life insurance companies have contributed NPR 34.7 million for the relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction of communities affected by the devastating Bhotekoshi floods on Bhadra 10.
A delegation led by Manohar Das Mul, President of the Nepal Non-Life Insurance Professionals’ Association, handed over the contribution to Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle on Bhadra 17 in the presence of the chairpersons and chief executive officers of the participating companies.
The contributors include the Nepal Non-Life Insurance Professionals’ Association, Siddhartha Premier Insurance Company, Sagarmatha Lumbini Insurance Company, Nepal Insurance, Neco Insurance, Prabhu Insurance, United Ajod Insurance, Sanima GIC Insurance and Himalayan Everest Insurance.
The association said an additional NPR 26,023.18 contributed personally by employees of Sagarmatha Lumbini Insurance, Himalayan Everest Insurance and United Ajod Insurance was also handed over to the fund.
The Nepal Non-Life Insurance Professionals’ Association expressed deep sorrow over the unprecedented loss of life and property caused by the Bhotekoshi floods. At its meeting on Bhadra 15, the association paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the disaster and prayed for the eternal peace of the deceased. It also expressed hope for the safe rescue of those still missing and gratitude to the Government of Nepal, security agencies, civil society and rescue teams from friendly countries for their tireless efforts in rescue operations.
The association has also pledged to give high priority to insurance claim settlements once details of projects, infrastructure, structures and other property damaged by the floods are received. It said claim settlements would be expedited as a priority to provide relief to policyholders affected by the disaster.
Meanwhile, NLG Insurance and IGI Prudential Insurance have already provided financial assistance to flood victims. The association said the remaining non-life insurance companies are also in the process of making contributions.
During the handover ceremony, Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle thanked the non-life insurance companies for their support at a time when the country is facing a crisis.
