Bangkok Closes 2026 IMF–World Bank Meetings with Great Success
Bangkok — Thailand brought the 2026 IMF–World Bank Group Annual Meetings to a successful close on Sunday, ending seven days of discussions at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center that opened on October 12.
Participants from across the globe used the week to debate where the world economy, financial systems and development efforts are headed. Thai officials said hosting the event allowed the country to demonstrate its ability to run a large international meeting, while giving visitors a taste of Thai culture, food and hospitality.
Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas, IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva and World Bank Group head Ajay Banga each offered thanks to those who worked to make the event a success, the Government Public Relations Department said. The mood at the close, it added, reflected the cooperation and friendships built over the week.
Georgieva added a personal touch at a reception honoring the local organizing team. She joked that while she came to Bangkok only as the IMF’s leader, she would depart as a “Thai Silk ambassador,” signaling her fondness for Thailand’s heritage.
