Sarina Lamichhane: A Successful Insurance Agent at Citizen Life
Kathmandu – Sarina Lamichhane of Dharmasthali, Kathmandu, has successfully transitioned from being a dedicated teacher to establishing herself as a leading agency manager at Citizen Life Insurance Company. Despite dedicating years to shaping the future of students, Sarina felt her own future lacked financial security. This realization led her to pursue a career in insurance, where she has made remarkable strides in just four years.
Sarina was born in Kageshwori Manohara Municipality-7, and after graduating from Padmakanya Campus in 2066 BS, she spent years in the teaching profession. Known for her dedication to practical education and her focus on understanding rather than rote learning, she was a respected figure in the education sector. However, with a desire for financial independence and greater personal growth, she joined Citizen Life Insurance as an agent on 9th Poush 2077 BS.
Initially unfamiliar with the insurance business, Sarina relied on her teaching experience and people skills to build a network. Her mentor, Sushil Kumar Basnet of Citizen Life, guided her through the early stages, and with the support of her family, Sarina gradually gained confidence. Overcoming initial doubts and challenges, she is now one of the most successful agents in the Tokha branch.
Sarina’s achievements in the insurance sector are significant. She has insured over 400 individuals since joining and has been recognized as a Member of the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) twice, in 2022 and 2025. She was also inducted into Citizen Life’s prestigious Diamond Club in 2078 BS and 2081 BS, and the Gold Club in 2079 BS.
Citizen Life’s training programs, motivational workshops, and tour plans have played a vital role in Sarina’s success. She credits the company’s supportive environment and policies, such as Child Future Plan, Jeevan Sarathi, and Shubharambha, for helping her win the trust of her clients. According to her, many citizens prioritize Child Future Plan insurance policies for their children’s future.
Sarina’s approach to her profession is marked by honesty, empathy, and thoroughness. She takes time to understand her clients’ needs, explains the benefits of insurance clearly, and addresses any misconceptions. Her clients trust her not just because of the insurance products she offers but because of her genuine nature and commitment to their well-being.
Today, Sarina is not just a successful insurance agent but also a dedicated wife, mother, and community member. She balances her professional responsibilities with her personal life, providing higher education for her children and supporting her husband. Reflecting on her journey, she acknowledges the initial lack of understanding from her family but expresses gratitude for the support they now provide.
Sarina aims to achieve the prestigious Court of the Table (COT) recognition from Citizen Life by 2026. She remains committed to raising awareness about the importance of life insurance and believes that the agent profession can play a significant role in addressing unemployment in Nepal.
