Measuring the amount of electrical radiation in mobile towers

October 23rd, 2023

Kathmandu: Nepal Telecommunication Authority is going to measure the EMR ie electromagnetic radiation (electrical radiation) caused by the radio frequency of the mobile tower. In order to keep the towers of the company within the standard and not to affect the health of the citizens, radiation measurements have been prepared.

There is a plan to measure the electrical radiation emitted by the radio frequency of mobile tower equipment in various urban and rural areas and take a report on whether the amount is in accordance with the standards set by the Nepal Telecommunication Authority.

Meenprasad Aryal, the director of the Authority, said that by measuring and verifying the EMR standards, instructions will be given for the improvement of the problem towers. He said that such measurements will be taken to study and analyze the implementation of the “Regulations on Public and Professional Safety from Radiation Generated by Radio Frequency of Mobile Towers” issued by the authority.

The authority has a plan to stop radiation emission exceeding the standard by measuring on towers near hospitals and schools. He said that all operator’s towers will be included in this test.

The test will cover the 900 to 1800, 2100, 2300 and 2500 MHz bands. The authority has said that the test will reveal the steps to be taken to control the risk to the general public from the radiation generated by the tower and to implement the regulations. “In previous tests conducted in various areas including Kathmandu, Pokhara, Dang, problems were found in some towers, we also made necessary improvements,” he said. This year too, we have a program of measurement.’
