NAFIJ Insures Rs 165 Million Group Accident Coverage for Members
Kathmandu – The Nepal Association of Financial Journalists (NAFIJ) has taken a historic step to ensure the safety and well-being of its members by providing group accident insurance worth Rs 165 million. This initiative covers 235 NAFIJ members and advisors, each insured for up to Rs 7,00,000 under an agreement signed with two prominent non-life insurers—Sagarmatha Lumbini Insurance (Salico) and Siddhartha Premier Insurance.
The agreement, finalized on Wednesday, acknowledges the inherent risks faced by journalists while reporting from the field. Journalists often navigate challenging and hazardous environments to deliver critical information to the public, making this insurance policy a significant milestone in safeguarding their professional and personal security.
NAFIJ Chairman Menuka Karki emphasized the importance of this initiative, highlighting the organization’s dedication to supporting its members in every aspect of their demanding profession. “Journalists are often exposed to various hazards in their daily work. This insurance coverage mitigates the financial impact in case of accidents, ensuring peace of mind for our members,” Karki stated.
She further noted that this move is part of NAFIJ’s broader efforts to address the health risks and professional development of its members, marking a historic milestone for the association.
Chunky Chhetri, CEO of Salico, expressed confidence that this insurance would enhance the safety of journalists and support the integrity of the information they provide. Birendra Bahadur Baidawar, CEO of Siddhartha Premier Insurance, also highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating that it would encourage journalists to continue their fieldwork with added security.
The collaboration with Salico and Siddhartha Premier Insurance aims to provide financial support in the event of any accident involving NAFIJ members, who frequently work in high-risk environments.
