Patan High Court Orders SuryaJyoti Life to Pay Claim to Bedridden Insured Angad Khadka

Kathmandu – The Patan High Court has ordered SuryaJyoti Life Insurance to pay Rs 1 million, along with interest, to Angad Khadka of Bhaktapur, who has been bedridden due to a severe illness. The decision was issued by a joint bench of Judges Anju Upreti Dhakal and Krishnaram Koirala.
Khadka, who had been insured with SuryaJyoti Life, suffered for three years due to the company’s refusal to pay his claim. The regulatory Nepal Insurance Authority had already ruled in favor of Khadka on Ashoj 8, 2080, instructing the company to process the claim. However, SuryaJyoti Life rejected the authority’s decision and filed a case against Khadka in the Patan High Court on Poush 18, 2080, further delaying the claim and causing significant mental anguish to the insured.
The court’s decision brings closure to the prolonged legal battle, with the bench ruling that SuryaJyoti Life must honor its obligations and pay the claim. Khadka, expressing his relief, stated, “I suffered unnecessarily for three years due to this fraudulent company. Today, I finally received justice. I urge others to carefully evaluate insurers before purchasing policies.” With this verdict, SuryaJyoti Life is now obligated to pay the claim, setting an important precedent for the rights of insured individuals.
