Insurance Authority Registers 120 Complaints in Nine Months, Resolves 118 Cases
Kathmandu — Nepal Insurance Authority, the regulatory body of the insurance sector, has been prioritizing the resolution of insurance-related complaints and dispute petitions. Despite delays in leadership appointments, the authority has recently stepped up efforts to address pending and backlogged cases.
According to the authority’s publication Insurance Reflection, a total of 120 cases were registered by the end of the third quarter of the current fiscal year. Of these, 86 cases were filed at the central office and 34 at provincial offices. Including 394 cases carried over from the previous fiscal year, the total caseload stood at 514.
During the same period in the previous fiscal year, 235 cases were registered, with 144 at the central office and 91 at provincial offices. Altogether, including 287 cases from earlier and three appeals, the total number of cases had reached 525 by the third quarter of the last fiscal year.
Case resolution status
By mid-April of the current fiscal year, the Nepal Insurance Authority had issued verdicts in 85 cases and resolved 33 cases through mutual settlements, bringing the total number of resolved cases to 118. In the same period last fiscal year, 131 cases were resolved, including 85 through verdicts and 46 through settlements.
As of mid-April this fiscal year, a total of 396 complaints remain pending. During the same period last fiscal year, 394 cases were yet to be resolved.
