Profit of a Dozen Microfinance Institutions Rises by 49%, Two See Decline

May 3rd, 2026

Kathmandu — Out of the 50 microfinance financial institutions listed on the Nepal Stock Exchange, 11 have so far published their financial statements for the third quarter of the current fiscal year 2025/26 (up to mid-April 2026). The disclosed reports show a notable increase in overall net profit.

According to the data, these 11 institutions collectively earned a total net profit of NPR 1.94 billion by mid-April 2026. During the same period in the previous fiscal year, their combined profit stood at NPR 1.30 billion. This reflects an overall growth of approximately 48.8% in net profit.

At the company level, Jeevan Bikas Microfinance secured the top position with a profit of NPR 626.9 million, marking a 76.26% increase compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, Sana Kisan Bikas Microfinance, which ranked second with a profit of NPR 483.2 million, reported a decline in profit compared to the previous fiscal year.

Similarly, Asha Microfinance posted a remarkable growth of over 168%, earning NPR 176.2 million in profit. Mero Microfinance also recorded a 14.86% increase, with profits reaching NPR 148.5 million, according to the financial statements.

Mahuli Microfinance and NIC Asia Microfinance showed exceptionally high growth in net profit. Mahuli’s profit increased more than 12-fold, while NIC Asia Microfinance’s profit surged by over 80 times, largely due to their relatively low profit base in the previous year.

Other microfinance companies, including Himalayan Microfinance, Atmanirbhar Microfinance, Support Microfinance, and Gurans Microfinance, also reported profit growth.

On the other hand, Sana Kisan Bikas Microfinance saw its profit decline by more than 11%, while RSDC Microfinance recorded a drop of around 6%.

Although the microfinance sector as a whole has experienced profit growth, performance varies across individual institutions. Differences in operating costs, loan expansion, recovery rates, and overall economic activity have contributed to uneven profitability among companies.
