Life Insurers’ Single Premium Rises 39%; Himalayan, Citizen and IME Post Sharp Growth

Kathmandu — Business from single-premium life insurance policies recorded significant growth in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2025/26 (2082/83 B.S.). Life insurance companies collected a total of NPR 22.421 billion in single premiums during the period, an increase of 39.48% compared with the same period a year earlier, when single-premium collections stood at NPR 16.0745 billion (FY 2024/25).

Nepal Life Insurance led the market in total single-premium collections, generating NPR 6.0827 billion during the review period, up 31.79% year-on-year. Prabhu Mahalaxmi Life ranked second with collections of NPR 4.1849 billion, followed by National Life Insurance with NPR 3.3303 billion.

In terms of growth rate, Himalayan Life Insurance posted the strongest increase, with single-premium collections surging from NPR 132.6 million a year earlier to NPR 464.4 million (growth of 250.16%). IME Life’s single-premium business rose 155.24% to NPR 338.5 million, while Citizen Life recorded 111.88% growth, collecting NPR 1.4802 billion.

SuryaJyoti Life collected NPR 1.4927 billion in single premiums, up 46.43% from the previous year. Asian Life collected NPR 1.1059 billion, and LIC Nepal collected NPR 1.0635 billion.

Other insurers’ single-premium collections for the period were: Sun Nepal Life, NPR 994.1 million; Sanima Reliance Life, NPR 747.3 million; Reliable Nepal Life, NPR 590.6 million; and MetLife, NPR 545.3 million.

A single-premium life insurance policy is one in which the policyholder pays the entire premium amount in a lump sum rather than through monthly, quarterly or annual installments. Once the lump-sum premium is paid, the insurance benefits and coverage specified under the policy take effect.
