A New Record by MetLife Foundation, Grants of More than US$1 Billion Provided
Kathmandu : MetLife Foundation has announced that it has contributed more than 1 billion US dollars. The foundation was established as an independent philanthropic arm of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company (MetLife), and since its inception, it has made significant contributions to strengthening the communities in which MetLife has a presence. Recently, MetLife Foundation focuses on driving inclusive economic mobility and addressing the needs of minority and underrepresented communities around the world. MetLife Foundation’s work continues to improve the financial health and well-being of individuals and families, creating positive impacts for society and communities.
“Supporting and protecting families, businesses and communities has always been at the heart of our strategy, and the MetLife Foundation helps us fulfill our mission,” said MetLife President and CEO, Michel A.Khalaf. He also says “As we celebrate this historic achievement, we remain committed to continuing to help all our stakeholders build a more confident future.
“Since its inception, the MetLife Foundation has established commitments with nonprofit organizations to provide grants and create programs in support of its mission. Among them some notable missions are mentioned as below:
-In 2005 A.D, the MetLife Foundation expanded its grant making beyond the US, committing US$200 million to a global campaign to bring financial inclusion to low-income communities around the world.
-For years, the MetLife Foundation has provided grants to support access to affordable housing and partnered with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, with which the foundation works in 13 countries, including the United States, Korea, India and Bangladesh.
-MetLife and the MetLife Foundation have proudly partnered with the United Negro College Fund for nearly 80 years to support students attending HBCUs.
-MetLife’s 2030 A.D Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Commitments include a commitment by the MetLife Foundation to provide US$150 million in funding to support underserved and underrepresented communities. Beginning in 2021 A.D, US$60.9 million has been provided to help close the income and wealth gap.
-MetLife Foundation has awarded more than US$18 million for Alzheimer’s disease research through MetLife Foundation Awards for Medical Research, which helps in better understanding of the disease.
MetLife Foundation extends more than US$1.1 million to Nepal, helping local communities act as a beacon of hope on their journey to a sustainable future. With a spotlight on women-led empowerment initiatives, the foundation promotes women’s entrepreneurship and financial resilience and catalyzes transformation through Pourakhi Nepal, Center for Self-Help Nepal and Women Act Nepal.
Furthermore, their partnership with “Room-to-Read” has lit the way for girls’ education in Nepal. They have also brightened the future of the children of MetLife employees and agents through annual scholarships.
In the condition of disasters such as earthquakes and the challenges of Covid-19, MetLife Foundation’s unwavering support including the contributions from organizations such as America Nepal Medical Foundation, Plan International and International Medical Corps have strengthened and rebuilt local communities.
Revitalization projects around Chitwan National Park have been conducted in partnership with Arbor Day Foundation to make the future of Nepal not only sustainable but also prosperous.
