Demanding Action Against Insurance Companies who Delay Payment of Claims on Time
Kathmandu: An insurance-related interaction and discussion program has been organized by the Nepal Insurance Authority on 5th of December, in the auditorium of the office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers of Lumbini Province located in Rapti Valley (Deukhuri).
The chief guest in the program, Chief Minister of Lumbini Province, Dilli Bahadur Chaudhary, requested the Nepal Insurance Authority to take action against the insurance companies that delay payment of insurance claims on time.
Chief Minister Chaudhary also urged the insurance sector not to be discredited by creating an environment for easy payment of insurance claims. Chairman of Nepal Insurance Authority Surya Prasad Silwal pointed out that it is necessary to bring a provincial insurance policy for the overall development and expansion of the insurance sector in the province and said that the authority is ready to assist in the formulation of insurance policy.
Chairman Silwal said, “The authority has been acting politically and practically to reduce complaints related to insurance, emphasis has been placed on providing insurance services to common citizens easily.”
While answering the questions raised in the program, Chairman Silwal informed that the arrangements for early payment of insurance claims are being made.
In the event, Director of Nepal Insurance Authority Sushil Dev Subedi gave a presentation on the importance of insurance, the current situation of the insurance market, the role of the provincial government in the development and expansion of the insurance sector, and other topics related to insurance.
The participants in the program mentioned different issues and complaints, some of them are: that insurance agents go door to door for insurance but the insurance companies delay or do not pay claims, agricultural technicians and insurance agents do not get enough salary, there is no expansion in agriculture and it is necessary to expand insurance branches to every local level.
Similarly, the participants also complained that the insurance companies refused to provide insurance other than the compulsory insurance, the insurance claims of cows and buffaloes damaged due to lumpy skin disease were not paid, the corona insurance claims were not paid, and the credibility of the insurance was reduced when the claims were not paid on time.
Minister of Lumbini Province, Chief Secretary and Secretaries of Provincial Ministries, Executive Director of Nepal Insurance Authority and officials of various government agencies in the province participated in the program.
