Public Accounts Committee Forms Subcommittee to Investigate Complaints on Insurance, Banking, and Capital Market Sectors

Kathmandu – The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the House of Representatives has formed a subcommittee to investigate a range of complaints received by the committee, focusing on issues across various sectors.

The decision, made during a recent PAC meeting at Singha Durbar, will prioritize complaints related to the insurance, banking, and capital markets sectors. Additionally, the committee has set a 15-day deadline for submitting a report on complaints related to Pokhara International Airport and Gautam Buddha International Airport.

PAC Chairman Rishikesh Pokharel announced that the task force would be responsible for studying and discussing a variety of issues, including Nepal Telecom, the Telecommunications Authority, the Ministry of Urban Development, Cooperatives, the Ministry of Health, Securities and Exchange Board of Nepal, the Crusher Industry, the Central Investigation Bureau, and the Nepal Scouts, among others. The task force will recommend decisions based on its findings.

To date, over 114 complaints have been filed with the PAC, covering 20 different categories. Of these, 48 complaints will be investigated by the newly formed task force. A separate task force, coordinated by Nepali Congress MP Sanjay Kumar Gautam, will examine 16 additional complaints not yet categorized by subject matter.

Among other complaints, Nepal Airlines Corporation Executive Chairman Yubaraj Adhikari is accused of acting against regulations, while Nepal Construction Entrepreneurs Federation Chairman Ravi Singh has filed a complaint against cement and rod price hikes and alleged black marketing by businessmen.

Another serious complaint concerns irregularities and corruption in consultancy services for the construction of power transmission lines, raised by the Nepal office of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).
