Himalayan Guardian Nepal Launches Affordable Insurance Plans for Foreign Tourists

Kathmandu – Himalayan Guardian Nepal has launched what is being described as the world’s most affordable insurance plan for foreign tourists visiting Nepal, ushering in a new era of tourism safety in the country.
Founded under the initiative of Dr. Dhananjay Regmi, former CEO of the Nepal Tourism Board, the company aims to provide easy-to-access, technology-driven insurance services tailored to the specific needs of travelers. The insurance plans are structured according to the type of travel, with cultural tours and leisure trips up to 3,500 meters priced at US$16 per person for 14 days. Trekking insurance, covering altitudes up to 5,500 meters, is available at US$150 per person for 14 days, while mountaineering coverage for climbs up to 6,000 meters is offered at US$500 per person for 60 days.
These insurance services can be purchased exclusively through registered trekking and tourism agencies in Nepal. Since agencies pay in advance, a small service fee of 10–15 percent may be added to the total cost. Each insurance policy comes with a satellite-connected device equipped with an SOS button. When pressed in an emergency, the device immediately alerts Nepalese insurance companies, rescue service providers, and medical professionals, enabling rapid assistance. “Our goal is not just to sell insurance, but to save lives,” Dr. Regmi said, emphasizing that helicopters, Sherpas, or doctors can reach the exact location of tourists without delay.
The new system is expected to curb fraudulent rescues and excessive hospital billing, issues that have increasingly affected Nepal’s tourism sector. Experts believe that the initiative will strengthen Nepal’s reputation as a safe and reliable destination for international travelers.
