Non-life Insurance Sector Grows 13%, Shikhar and Sagarmatha Lead, Himalayan Everest Posts Sharpest Growth

Kathmandu — Nepal’s non-life insurance companies expanded their business by 13.11% in the first eight months of the current fiscal year (2025/26), earning over NPR 31 billion in total premium income.

According to data up to the end of mid-March 2026, the 14 operating non-life insurers collectively generated NPR 31.70 billion, compared to NPR 28.02 billion during the same period in the previous fiscal year.

Shikhar Insurance and Sagarmatha Lumbini Insurance led the market in total premium income, while Himalayan Everest Insurance and NLG Insurance recorded the strongest growth rates during the review period.

Shikhar Insurance topped the list with NPR 4.3854 billion in total business, marking a 9.25% year-on-year increase.

Sagarmatha Lumbini Insurance posted NPR 3.36 billion in premiums, up 1.32%. Himalayan Everest Insurance saw a sharp 45.15% surge to NPR 3.20 billion. Siddhartha Premier reached NPR 2.79 billion, up 1.39%, while IGI Prudential Insurance grew 12.99% to NPR 2.68 billion. NLG Insurance climbed 36.22% to NPR 2.53 billion, Neco Insurance rose 9.14% to NPR 2.39 billion, and United Ajod increased 22.79% to NPR 1.96 billion.

The Oriental Insurance posted NPR 1.94 billion in business, up 14.10%, while Sanima GIC grew 13.68% to NPR 1.78 billion. Nepal Insurance recorded NPR 1.49 billion, up 6.69%, and Prabhu Insurance rose 4.54% to NPR 1.21 billion. National Insurance saw a 13.60% increase, reaching NPR 868.7 million.

Rastriya Beema Company, the only government-owned insurer, was the sole company to record a decline, with business falling 2.79% to NPR 1.06 billion.
