Kathmandu – Adviser to the Ministry of Social Welfare and Ministry of Women and Children Affairs of Bangladesh, Ms. Sharmeen S. Murshid, delivered a compelling national statement at the inaugural edition of “Sagarmatha Sambaad,” Nepal’s permanent global dialogue forum held in Kathmandu.
Speaking during the plenary session of the event, themed “Climate Change, Mountains and the Future of Humanity,” Adviser Murshid underscored the shared responsibility of nations in safeguarding the planet’s fragile ecosystems. “We are one ecosystem, from summit to sea. What happens to the mountain, happens to the village, happens to the city, happens to us all,” she emphasized.
In her remarks, she called for strengthened cross-border cooperation through joint monitoring mechanisms, early warning systems, shared water governance, collaborative scientific research, and unified courage to tackle climate change. She also reaffirmed Bangladesh’s steadfast commitment to climate resilience and sustainable development.
During her visit, Adviser Murshid paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Nepal, Mr. KP Sharma Oli, at his official residence. The two leaders discussed avenues for bolstering bilateral cooperation, particularly in climate action and regional development. Prime Minister Oli lauded the work of Bangladesh’s interim government under the leadership of Professor Muhammad Yunus, while Adviser Murshid commended Nepal’s strides in women’s empowerment and invited the Prime Minister to visit Bangladesh.
On the sidelines of the Sambaad, Adviser Murshid held bilateral meetings with several international dignitaries, including the UK’s Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Lords Minister), Baroness Susan Hayman, and the UAE’s Assistant Foreign Minister for Energy and Sustainability Affairs, Mr. Abdulla Balalaa.

This year’s forum has drawn high-level participation from various nations, including ministers from China, India, Bhutan, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates.
